Abstract
Histological analysis of the ovaries of 108 tench (Tinca tinca L.) females confirmed asynchronic development of the oocytes in this fish. Vitellogenesis commenced in May in all years but it depended on water temperature (> 10°C). Oocyte resorption was observed throughout the year, most intensive during the reproduction period. Oogonia were also present all year round, most numerous in the post-spawning period. Ovaries of tench remained in stage III of development since September till April (inclusive).
